Camp N Pack FAQ
What do I do when I get to camp?
When you arrive at camp, you should follow the signs directing you into the camp. You will be directed to come to the Dining Hall first to check in. At this time we will have some paperwork for you to fill out, we will CHECK YOUR RABIES CERTIFICATE that you have sent in, and give you a nametag and pet your dog. Then we will check you into your cabin / tent site / trailer site.
The parking lot is not near the cabins so please keep that in mind when packing. Vehicles are not allowed into the campsites. We will have wagons and a trailer to help get your luggage to your site.
Friday night there will be dinner available between 6- 7:00 PM for those people that prepaid for dinner. After dinner we are planning to have a campfire complete with snacks for everyone.
If it is a nice night we will try and have a night walk to look at the stars.
CHECK IN ON FRIDAY WILL BE FROM 3 PM. TO 9 PM. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE YOU ARRIVE AFTER 9 PM.
If this is a problem please call and let us know!
What do I need for my dog?
First, you need a few ways you can restrain your dog. If you are at dinner and your dog is in the cabin you may want to bring a crate or something to tie your dog up with! Dogs cannot be left in the cabins loose if they are unattended. We suggest that you not tie up your dog and leave him for the first time at Camp.
If you plan to bring a bunch of dogs and plan to have them sleep in your vehicle in dog boxes/crates please call and let us know ahead of time. (413-258-4089) The camp does not allow vehicles into the campsites so we will have to make special arrangements for you.
Next, bring the necessities- a good collar, a six foot leash, dog dishes, dog food, bottled water or water from home (if your dog is sensitive to well water) and proof of vaccinations.
Finally, due to the many different activities we will be offering, we suggest you bring any of the following: backpack, harness, training collar, flexi-leash, lots of treats (for training), chews or toys that will entertain the dog when left alone, brush / comb, tags on collar.
What kinds of things should I bring?
Folding chairs, flashlights, battery operated lantern, sleeping bag, toiletries, pillows, towels / facecloths, bug spray, sunscreen, raincoat, warm coat, hat, gloves, comfortable hiking shoes, clothes for all kinds of weather, extra blanket, and your checkbook for the auction.
If you are planning to stay in a tent you might want to bring a mat or a camping mattress as well as extra blankets. If you plan to make your own meals, (our Saturday Banquet is not to be missed though!) please bring all the supplies you will need. Refrigeration will be available at the dining hall.
Do I need to bring my own food/drinks?
Meals will be available in the dining hall for people who prepaid for them. You are welcome to bring your own food if you prefer to rough it for some meals or have special diet restrictions. We suggest that any food you do bring is kept at the dining hall kitchen so that you do not attract wild animals into your campsite. Soft drinks / coffee / tea / hot chocolate are available all weekend at no charge for all participants. Campfire snacks will also be provided.
How do I clean up after my dog?
You will find pooper-scoopers, mutt mitts and trashcans everywhere! You are expected to pick up after your dog at all times. If you are out on a trail or a road please move all feces off the shoulder as far as possible or pick it up and throw it away with a mutt mitt. Please do not let your dogs urinate on any man-made object. Each owner is responsible for cleaning up after his or her dog.
Who cleans up the camp during Camp N Pack and after the weekend?
This weekend is put together and run by the volunteers of Alaskan Malamute Rescue of New England, Inc. We also attend the weekend to have a great time with our dogs. The philosophy of the weekend is: if you see something that needs to be done, help out!
When you check in you will be asked to sign up for a chore. You will also be asked to help in the kitchen for at least one of the meals. We would like everyone to sign up for a job or two during the weekend! This helps build on the experience of the weekend and lets us keep the prices down.
We expect all our campers to pitch in during the weekend so that everyone has a good time and the work does not fall to only a few people.
All participants are expected to clean their shelter and washstand before leaving as well as help clean a public area of the camp.
Thank you ahead of time for your help!
